Jaeger-LeCoultre Dress Watch (c. 1940s)

A beautiful example of a mid-century Jaeger-LeCoultre hand-winding dress watch from the mid-to-late 1940s

  • The original dial features a heavy, even "tropical" patina, having aged from its original silver/white to a deep honey-gold. It retains its original Arabic numerals and the "Jaeger-LeCoultre" signature. The heated-blue or dark-finished steel hands provide a striking contrast, including the characteristic long, sweeping centre-seconds hand.

The heart of this watch is the prestigious Cal. P450/4C. The movement is gilt-finished and features high-end watchmaking details such as "Côtes de Genève" (Geneva stripes) across the bridges and a high-grade regulator for precision. It is signed "SWISS" and "JAEGER-LECOULTRE," indicating it was intended for the international market.

The stainless steel case remains in honest, vintage condition with sharp lug lines. It features a "snap-back" case design. The crown appears to be a period-correct, unsigned replacement or an original gold-capped variant, common for the era to add a touch of luxury.

The Calibre 450 family is legendary among JLC enthusiasts for its reliability and its use in military watches (like the Mark X "Dirty Dozen"). Finding one in a civilian dress case with a dial that has aged this characteristically makes it a unique piece for those who appreciate "honest" vintage aesthetics and the charm of natural patination.
